The Titans lost to the Patriots by a score of 59-0 on Sunday. They had negative yards passing. They now have an 0-6 record. It’s time to stop pretending that they’re going to turn this thing around and contend for the playoffs this season. The team with the best record last season could very well end up with the worst this season, and there’s not much anyone can do about it.
With the Titans franchise crumbling apart, there’s no reason not to make Vince Young the starting quarterback. We already know he’s got the talent, and 10 games of experience at the NFL level, especially when there isn’t much help from teammates, can go a long way towards maturing a young quarterback. The Titans thought we were getting A-level talent with Young, so there’s no reason to give up on him when they’ve got nothing to lose. They can’t do worse than negative yards passing. I could snap the ball and heave it grenade-style 20 feet in the air over the middle and eventually one of the receivers would catch the jump ball for a positive gain in yards. Vince Young was once a top college quarterback with plenty of power in his arms and his legs, and it’s about time the Titans start using him. He’s not going to win a bunch of games for the Titans this season, but he might be able to realize the special talent he does have and set us up for a comeback season next year.
The Titans might not have any wins this season, but ESPN’s power rankings indicate they’re the best winless team in football! The Titans are ranked #27, ahead of all the other winless teams and even better than the Raiders and the Browns, who are both 1-4. Detroit is just a place ahead of us, and for some reason the Buffalo Bills are ranked at #25, ahead of even the Cleveland Browns, who they lost to at home this week by a 6-3 score in what was officially the WORST FOOTBALL GAME EVER PLAYED! The Titans, who were expected to be playoff contenders this season, are now going to need a miracle to do so, but they can still salvage some of this season and it looks like the ESPN experts expect them to.
The question people are starting to ask is this: should we start Vince Young? I think we should. At the very least give the kid some playing time. He’s not under any pressure here, because the team is sucking without him. Just have him do his thing and we’ll see if we can figure out some new tricks. Maybe we’ll figure out how to win a game here or there. Either way, we’ve got to get a young quarterback prepared for the future, because Kerry Collins is not the future and the way the Titans have been playing he shouldn’t even be the present. Give him a bottle of Jack and send him on his way.
Get tickets for this rare Christmas Friday game
The Titans will have the privilege of hosting a game on Christmas night, a Friday. This December 25 game will feature the San Diego Chargers, who many predict will be the top team in the AFC this season (we all know it will be the Titans, but let’s let that play out). I can’t remember the last time the Titans hosted a game on a Friday; I’m not sure if they ever have. This game has a lot of ticket interest, as people will be looking to get away from their families by the time kickoff rolls around. What better way to escape than to an NFL game? Celebrate XMas with your Titans-loving NFL family. Tickets can still be found for under $50 apiece.
Don’t pay retail price for tickets to this game
The Titans will play the first of 3 games at LP Field in a span of 12 days on December 13th against the St. Louis Rams. I’ve looked over the entire NFL schedule and there is no other team that has 3 home games in a span of less than 2 weeks. The Rams were a terrible team last season, winning just 2 games. Guess what? They’re going to be a terrible team again this season. It will be a miracle if they made it to .500. Some are predicting it will be a race to the bottom for the Rams and the Lions. Tickets for this one are among the cheapest you’ll find all season for a Titans home game, and it’s even a better deal because you’re almost guaranteed a Titans victory! I’ve seen some tix reselling for under $30 apiece.
Here are some cheap tickets for this game
The Miami Dolphins and their wildcat offense will make a visit to LP Stadium on December 20. The Dolphins won 11 games last season, but many believe they’ll have a dropoff this year as teams get better adapted to playing against the wildcat and taking the example of the Baltimore Ravens, who beat the Dolphins in the regular and postseason last year. Also, there’s a trend for teams that have gone from worst to first in their division to drop 3 games from their peak in the 3rd year. Tickets for this game are selling in the $40 to $60 range for upper deck seats.
Cheap tickets for this game
The defending NFC champion Arizona Cardinals come to LP Field on November 29th for a game against the Titans. It almost seems wrong to point out that the Cardinals were the champions of their conference last season, because the Titans weren’t despite being a much better team. Heck, the Cardinals wouldn’t have even made the playoffs if they had been in the AFC, and the Titans would have had them beat by 3 games at the end of the regular season. The Cards are pretty much the same team as last season, so I’ve got to favor the Titans in this matchup, and I’d be saying that even if I weren’t a fan and a total “homer”. Cheap tickets are selling in the $35 to $50 range.
Every Titans fan knows we’ve got the best team without a win this season, but that will change on Sunday with a defeat of the Jaguars, according to a Madden video game simulation. Kerry Collins throws for nearly 250 yards while Chris Johnson and LenDale White combine for over 150 yards rushing. Final score: Titans 24 – Jaguars 16.
