The only thing remarkable about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers season so far is that ESPN doesn’t consider them the worst team in football. The weekly power rankings have them at #31. They don’t have a win in their first 5 games, and they even managed to lose to the otherwise winless Bills, a team that only scored 3 points at home this week against the Browns. I’m going to start a campaign to have the Bucs declared the Worst Team in the NFL, because some publicity is better than no publicity. People need to learn the plight of our fans down here.
Who could argue that the Rams are a worse team than the Bucs? Sure, the Rams are 0-5, but they had over 400 yards of offense against the undefeated Vikings this past week. The Bucs lost to the Bills. We are going to win this race to the bottom, I guarantee it.

The Buccaneers will play their final home game of the regular season on January 3 against the Atlanta Falcons. The Falcons were an 11 win team last season and they seem to be just getting better. Matt Ryan is on the verge of becoming a true superstar quarterback in the NFL, and Michael Turner has already established himself as one of the top running backs. This will be one of the biggest challenges for the Bucs this season, and it just happens to come in week 17. Tickets can be found for under $25 on the resellers market.

The New York Jets make a rare visit to Raymond James on December 13 for a non conference game against the Buccaneers. The Jets struggled at the end of last season as Brett Favre absolutely disintegrated before our eyes. This season they’ve got Matt Sanchez at the helm, the first time they’ve been led by a rookie quarterback. I’m not sure if that’s a very good idea, as it usually takes a good 2 to 3 years to master an offense, and you’ve got to master an offense to succeed in the NFL. I think the Jets struggle this season, and I think they lose this game away from home.

The New Orleans Saints come to Raymond James on November 22. The Saints have attempted to upgrade their defense in the offseason, but only time will tell whether or not they’ve been successful. Drew Brees does a fine job of leading the offense, but there were signs of uneasiness in the preseason. I think the Bucs have a good shot at winning this game. Tickets are selling lightly, so you can find cheap tix being resold for under $25.
The rumors are flying around the Tampa Bay area that the Buccaneers are planning to move to Los Angeles in the next few years. The Bucs have been hoarding money, neglecting to sign free agents and instead picking up practice players from other teams. This seems a lot like the plot from “Major League”, where the Cleveland Indians owner tries to put together the worst team imaginable to decrease attendance so she can move the team to Florida.
While the Bucs certainly aren’t looking great this year, I think the acquisition of Kellen Winslow shows the team is not trying to throw in the towel. They also play in a newer stadium, so they’d take a big loss on that if they tried to move. I think it’s far more likely that the Jacksonville Jaguars would be moved to LA. They are a younger franchise with a less-established fanbase than the Bucs. I think that would be the right move, because Jacksonville really shouldn’t have an NFL franchise anyway, and Los Angeles needs one badly.

The Buccaneers return home to Raymond James on November 8 to play Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers. The Packers only won 6 games last season, but a lot of people are expecting Aaron Rodgers to develop into a superstar level QB this year. In addition, the defense has switched to a 3-4 that might help shore up some of the problems they had last season. It usually takes over a year to successfully switch a defense like that, but perhaps the Packers are ahead of the learning curve. This will be challenging game for the Buccaneers at a key point in the season.

The Buccaneers will lose a home game at Raymond James Stadium this year as they “host” the New England Patriots at Wembley Stadium in London on October 25. I hope at least a few Bucs fans will fly across the pond for this once-in-a-lifetime NFL experience, and if you do finding tickets for this game might prove a little difficult. The Buccaneers will play the Carolina Panthers at Raymond James Stadium on October 18. The Panthers won 12 games last season, but they had a lot of turnover in the offseason and will probably struggle to contend this year. This is a game that the Bucs absolutely have to win if they are going to contend in their division this season. Tickets for this game are surprisingly considering what’s at stake, with some going for as low as $30. That number could get higher as we get closer to game day and buyers get a little more desperate.

The Buccaneers home schedule just gets tougher with this game against the New York Giants on September 27. The Giants have one of the best defenses in football, and they’ve got an offense that seems to be gelling a little more each season. I don’t think Eli Manning has reached his peak yet. This game is going to be quite a challenge for the Bucs. Tickets are selling on the secondary market for $50 to $75.

The Buccaneers will start their season at home against Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys seem to be a team in flux with a very tough division schedule ahead of them, but then again the Bucs haven’t exactly figured everything out yet either. The Buccaneers will start this season with a head coach who definitely knows more about defense than offense, and they just fired their offensive coordinator last week. Where does that leave our offense? I guess we’re going to have to look for the defense to score points. We’ve got a chance in this game because we’re at home, but a loss could be a sign of a tough season ahead.
