Rams Remain At The Bottom Of ESPN’s Garbage Pile

Wednesday 14 October 2009 @ 3:38 pm

The Rams are once again officially the worst team in football, according to ESPN’s weekly power rankings. The 0-5 Rams are playing up to expectations, which were about as low as they could be coming into this season. Even the prospect of the team being bought by Rush Limbaugh doesn’t frighten me anymore. We’re a terrible franchise, and we deserve terrible ownership.

On the plus side, we had a pretty decent offense last week against the Vikings, who don’t have a great defense. 400 yards and 27 first downs is nothing to scoff at. Our offense is clearly better than the Bills’, who scored just 3 points against the Browns. If we can pull off a victory somewhere we could climb off the floor of the cellar and into… well, whatever is just above the floor of the cellar. We’ve also got a couple decent fantasy players who can rack up big numbers after we get way down, during what is often referred to as “garbage time”.

Are The 2009 Rams Worse Than The 2008 Detroit Lions?

Monday 12 October 2009 @ 12:53 pm

Without a doubt the Rams are the worst team in football this season. They are worse than the Bucs, they are worse than the Bills. They are truly terrible. But how terrible are they? Could they beat the Detroit Lions from last season. Frankly, I’m not so sure that they could. The Lions played a lot of close games last season, while the Rams aren’t even close to beating anyone. What’s the point of having a great running back when nobody will block for him? And really, a good running back is all we’ve got. Kyle Boller is a gifted athlete but a joke of a quarterback. I’ve reached the point where I wouldn’t be surprised to open up the sports section on Monday morning and read a line like this: K. Boller – 1/17, 3 yards, 3 INT. I wonder if he closes his eyes when he drops back in the pocket. We all know the Lions’ Dan Orlovsky from last season did close his eyes when dropping back, which is why he occasionally ran off the field without realizing it, but he also put the Lions in a position to win week after week, only to see his defense give everything up in a devastating fashion.

Here’s my prediction:
2008 Lions 12, 2009 Rams 6. The Rams score their points on an Orlovsky fumble returned for a touchdown, then miss the extra point. The Lions take advantage of Boller interceptions to get the field position needed to kick 4 field goals. Total number of first downs in the game: 5. Total number of punts: 17.

Rams vs. San Francisco 49ers – Final Home Game on January 3

Thursday 8 October 2009 @ 11:21 pm

Buy tickets early for the final home game and save big

The Rams final home game of the regular season will come on January 3, 2010 against the San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers have been a dismal franchise ever since that DeBartolo (Am I spelling that right? Do I care?) family fiasco with the daughter and the husband taking over the team and making blunder after blunder. The fall of Camelot seemed to be complete. That said, the Niners have a lot of young talent that could surprise this season. Sure, it would be nice if they could draft a player who would actually show up to training camp (next year check the IQ scores of each potential draftees’ agent), but eventually these rookies will learn how to play at NFL speed. Let’s hope they don’t learn by the end of this season, because we’ve got them in our final game. Who knows what this game will be worth, but I’ve got to believe, as a Rams fan, that we’ll still be in the hunt.

Rams vs. Houston Texans on December 20 – Tickets Available

Thursday 1 October 2009 @ 11:17 pm

Get cheap tix for this game

The Houston Texans will make an appearance at the Edward Jones Dome on December 20th. The Texans have been improving their franchise in recent years, and they’ve been doing it the right way. The Detroit Lions should probably look at what the Texans are doing and try to copy that. The Texans are young and athletic and capable of a win on any given week against any given team, even though they’ve failed to dominate in a season so far. This game could actually be a lot bigger than many people realize. Tickets are reselling for $35 – $50.
