Washington Redskins at Chargers – January 3

The Chargers will play their final regular season game on January 3 against the Washington Redskins. The Redskins are a much improved team over last season, although I think they’ll probably still finish 3rd or 4th in their division (the NFC East is stacked this year). This will be one of two non-conference home games for the Chargers this season, the other one being against the Eagles. Those two teams are both better than most of their AFC opponents this season. I think the Chargers will have clinched a playoff berth by this point, but it’s still possible this game might have home field advantage implications.

Cincinnati Bengals vs. Chargers – December 20

Monday 21 September 2009 @ 1:27 am

Still need tickets for this game?

The Chargers weak home schedule continues with a game against the Bengals on December 20. The Bengals usually spend their offseason committing felonies, so this will be one of the last weeks where most of them are free men. In all seriousness, the Bengals are more of a distraction than a football team. Chad Johnson OchoCinco Retardo is good for a delusional soundbyte after each devastating loss, but other than that they don’t pose much of a threat to quality teams like the Chargers, especially when they have to play on the road.

LT Scratched For Ravens Game

Saturday 19 September 2009 @ 7:08 pm

LaDainian Tomlinson will not play tomorrow against the Ravens. He has a sore left ankle that kept him out of practice on Friday. Plan your fantasy football teams accordingly. Darren Sproles and Michael Bennett will take over the running duties.

Remember when LT was Mr. Dependable? Now it seems like we’re waiting for each week’s injury report to find out if he’ll be playing.

Kansas City Chiefs at San Diego Chargers – November 29

See what seats are available for this game

Is it just me, or is the Chargers schedule looking kind of soft this year? Sure, they play the Eagles, but that’s a home game. Their division is looking exceptionally weak, which I guess is part of the reason the experts are picking the Chargers as a Super Bowl favorite (the other reason of course is the fact that they’re a really good team). The Kansas City Chiefs come to Qualcomm on November 29. The Chiefs haven’t been a very good team in a long time, and this year they’ll probably be even worse than normal. They picked up the overrated Matt Cassel in the offseason, but who knows if he’ll even be healthy enough to be a factor this season. I wouldn’t be sure at this point that he’ll even be playing in this game in late November.

Is LT Washed Up?

Tuesday 15 September 2009 @ 7:13 pm

Those of you who watched last night’s game against the Raiders may have noticed something unusual when the Chargers had the ball late in the 4th quarter: LT standing on the sideline with his helmet off. Reports indicate LT rolled an ankle and that was the reason he was out of the game, but many fans are still skeptical. Tomlinson had 4.2 yards per carry last night and just didn’t look as sharp as Sproles, who seemed to be springboarding himself through the middle of the Raiders defensive attack. On the other hand, Sproles averaged under 3 yards per carry, so maybe it’s all just appearances.

I guess rather than ask “should we bench LT for Sproles” we should be asking “is LT hurt again, and if so can we survive without him?”. The answer to the first part of that question appears to be yes, considering he was seen limping badly after the game, and the second part is likely a maybe, since Sproles is a workhorse.

Philadelphia Eagles vs. Chargers – November 15

Sunday 13 September 2009 @ 1:15 am

Tickets for this game are HOT!

The Philadelphia Eagles will come to Qualcomm for a game against the Chargers on November 15. This game is already being billed as a possible Super Bowl preview, as the Eagles look like they could be one of the top teams in the NFC this season. This non-conference game may not have the huge playoff implications of other Chargers games, but the caliber of the teams playing make this one of the bigger regular season games of the year. I hope Michael Vick can get a chance to play in this game so one of our guys can crush him.

DA Dismisses Case Against Merriman

Friday 11 September 2009 @ 11:28 pm

Proving my previous theory correct, the DA in the assault case against Shawne Merriman has dismissed the charges, saying there was insufficient evidence to prove a crime had been committed. Reality TV “star” Tila Tequila claimed Merriman choked her and threw her to the ground. I think she just sensed her 15 minutes were almost up and was looking for a reprieve.

What Is Tila Tequila Trying To Get Out Of Merriman?

Friday 11 September 2009 @ 5:03 am

Ok, here’s a scenario to run by everyone. Someone accuses you of assault. You’re arrested and booked and everything and you make bail are are awaiting what comes next. A few days later, your accuser posts some messages on Twitter saying she’s going to talk to the district attorney the next day. The district attorney finds out about this and responds by saying he doesn’t have a meeting scheduled with your accuser. Your accuser posts another Twitter message saying the meeting is actually this afternoon. The district attorney says “no, it isn’t”. What’s really going on here. Now suppose for a second that you happen to be one of the richest athletics in pro football, and your accuser is your girlfriend (ex-girlfriend?) who was once a semi-celebrity but her star is fading fast along with her bank account.

Here’s what I think. I think Tila Tequila wanted out of her relationship with Shawne Merriman, and she thought she could take an argument and escalate it into assault charges and a huge settlement from an embarrassed ex-boyfriend. Right now she’s trying to make it seem like she’s more serious about the criminal charges than she really is, all in an effort to scare Merriman into offering a big settlement quickly so she’ll just go away.

November 1 – Oakland Raiders vs. Chargers

Friday 11 September 2009 @ 1:09 am

Buy tickets to this game before it’s too late

For the second straight home game, the Chargers will face a divisional opponent that’s seen better days. The Raiders have been a terrible franchise ever since they lost the Super Bowl to the Buccaneers. Heck, even their coach was under investigation for punching one of his other coaches. How messed up is that? I imagine that fight started with something like this:
Head coach: our team looked like crap in practice today
other coach: I can’t believe I’m stuck working for the Raiders. I wish I were dead
Head coach: let’s see if my fist can make that happen

Tickets for this game are selling in the $70 – $100 range, depending on where you want to sit.

Chargers Have Cool Uniforms For Throwback Days

Friday 11 September 2009 @ 1:07 am

The NFL is having the original AFC teams wear throwback uniforms during games when they play each other this season. The Chargers are one of the few teams that actually have cool throwback jerseys and helmets. Here is a sneak peak at the Chargers road uniforms:

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

The Chargers throwbacks have become a common sight in San Diego, as the Chargers standard uniforms are kind of bland and ugly. Like the Buffalo Bills, the Chargers have looked for any excuse to wear the throwbacks, and the NFL/AFC’s promotion of the founding AFC teams this season will give them even more opportunities to do so.
