For those of you who haven’t been paying attention to cellphone news in the past month or so, the popular RAZR is going to be getting a sequel. The RAZR 2 has two QVGA screens, and I’m told they look fantastic. Several other components have been upgraded, I’ll have more on that later. Expected retail price is around $500, which should allow it to compete well with the bulkier but more enhanced Apple iPhone.

I found this interesting article (see link below) comparing the Motorola KRZR and the RAZR V3i. These phones are among the most popular in the United States, but most people do not know the differences between them and why they might want to purchase one instead of the other.

I think the main difference in these phones is the features. Buy the RAZR if you’re into music and you already use iTunes. Buy the KRZR if you want a phone with a decent camera. To tell you the truth, I think most people would be better off with the KRZR. I see a lot more people taking pictures with their phone than listening to music. People would rather use an iPod with a larger storage drive for their music collection.
The new MOTORIZR Z8 is the first kick slider from Moto, and it is designed to fit the profile of the human face. This is in contrast to the RAZR, which was only designed to fit Sarah Jessica Parker’s face. To the rest of us who have faces that are not shaped like a foot, the 3G MOTORIZR is the phone we want.

Now for some tech specs: a 2 megapixel camera, MPEG4 or 3GP video recording, 90MB internal memory, 5 hours of talk time, 16 days of standby.

This phone will likely hit Europe long before it comes stateside. Why is the United States so against innovative cell phones?

This is a message to all cellphone and PDA makers: do not make your own operating system. Hire some Linux pros, and have them make a custom OS based on that. It seems that more and more companies are doing this after years and years of trying to make their proprietary OS work… and failing.

The KRZR is not a RAZR, or even a sibling of the RAZR, it’s just another Motorola cell phone with a silly name. I guess they’re likely distant cousins, which explains the sleek etched keypad similarities.

Of course, the KRZR is better than the RAZR in almost every way. It’s slightly thicker, but also leaner. That makes it easier to hold than the RAZR, which has a tendency to slip out of the hands because it’s so wide and has thin edges. The operating system is still all-Motorola, but slightly improved. That still means slow and frustrating, for the most part.

Features include Bluetooth, and with A2DP it can stream audio to Bluetooth speakers or headsets. There is also a MicroSD memory card slot that can take up to 1GB of mp3 or photo storage. The internal memory is just 20mb, so don’t count on loading it up with pictures.

Ignoring all the things that really matter, the KRZR also looks cool. It has a metallic blue color made of “aircraft-grade magnesium and aluminum,” according to Motorola. I wonder how much they pay their marketing guys.

Before cell phones can be sold on the US market, they need to pass FCC regulations to make sure they don’t interfere with other communications systems. The Linux-based Motorola ROKR E6 has passed those tests, so it’s possible it could hit shelves here in the United States.

The ROKR E6 features many of the styling cues found on the RAZR (hence this post), but it’s not uber-thin, and it has a lot more features. As implied by the name, it is a music phone, or rather a phone that plays music. That means it can do a whole lot more than just play a catchy ringtone. It also features a touchscreen with stylus, along with a Motorola-tweaked Linux operating system, which beats the heck out of the clunky Motorola OS used on most of their recent cell phones. Other features on this phone include: a 2 megapixel camera, FM transmitter, and stereo bluetooth.

Most of these flashy cell phones are never sold in the United States. The market is much more cell phone crazy in Asia, and they seem to appreciate features more than American users. We tend to stick to the basics: making phone calls, texting, and customizing our ringtones and backgrounds. Are we going to start tweaking our phones so they are integrated with our laptop any time soon? Probably not.

Ever since its introduction a few years ago, the Motorola RAZR has been the hottest cellphone on the market. It’s sleek, slim, and as shiny as Kojak’s scalp, and it just oozes cool.

This is one of the first sites to be completely devoted to RAZR news and rumors. I will personally be reporting every new model and accessory for your RAZR, whether you have the original base model v3, v3i, v3c, v3m, or any other model, including those made for foreign markets.

There have also been many special editions RAZRs that have created a lot of buzz, including a pink model, which was originally limited edition, a Dolce & Gabbana version, and a special edition phone covered in Swarovski crystals.

Check back soon for the latest news. Who knows what Moto’s next move will be. Perhaps a brown suede leather RAZR. Maybe a RAZR/iPod/canon digital video/satellite television all-in-one device (mmmm, probably not).
