People aren’t the only ones affected by the tidal wave of foreclosures in Rancho Santa Fe’s upscale housing market. Some equine pals of the former owner’s of those foreclosed properties are becoming a heavy financial burden on people who can afford them the least. Horse slaughter is no longer an option because although it remains legal, the only remaining licensed slaughterhouses were closed last year. Horses can still be exported for slaughter, but a Congressional bill could ban that practice later this year.
This issue puts the Humane Society of the United States and the American Veterinary Medical Association at odds. The Humane Society argues that slaughterhouses are profit-driven and will not improve the situation these horses are facing. They believe the horses should simply be euthanized. The AVMA believes that overpopulation could become a big problem if these horses are not destroyed, whether its for profit or not.
REGION: Too many horses, too few homes : North County Times - Californian
Alright, so if you’ve found this page, you probably already know Rancho Santa Fe is the most ridiculously rich community in the United States. So what makes it so great, and why do all the rich people want to live there?
Of course, the main factor in Ranch Santa Fe’s high real estate prices are the beautiful homes. There are no shacks or trailers in Rancho Santa Fe, because zoning laws are very strict. That is another factor in the high real estate prices. When you buy a place here, you already have a good idea what kind of neighbors you’re going to have. Not that you’ll have to see or hear them, as the houses are secluded from each other and for the most part are not highly visible from the streets.
Speaking of the streets, they’re so clean you can eat off them. You won’t find anyone eating off them though, as it’s not the most inviting environment for a homeless person. They wouldn’t fit in too well in this community where the average family is earning multiple six figures a year.
As you can imagine, there is very little crime in Rancho Santa Fe. For the most part, criminal activity is limited to a select number of residents, such as former politician Duke Cunningham (Representative, GOP - California) , who sold himself and his position like a common Vegas… well, you get the picture. As far as I know, he only owned one home here, although it is a huge one. No worries about him though, as he has resigned from office and is currently in prison.
Next time …
We’re going to tour some of the biggest mansions in this community, and look at some that might be coming on the market.
Coming Soon…
The Covenant, and a look back at the history of this amazing little town.
