The Sports Illustrated mock draft has the Steelers picking 32nd in the 1st round, which means SI is predicting the Steelers will win the Super Bowl! They also predict the Steelers will use their 1st round pick to select Duke Robinson, a guard out of Oklahoma. The Steelers need improvement on their offensive line, and Robinson is a large guy who is skilled enough to do the job in pass and run blocking.
Despite a knee injury suffered during the AFC championship game, Pittsburgh wide receiver Hines Ward will be playing in the Super Bowl this Sunday. Ward was diagnosed with a sprained MCL in his right knee. Ward might not be the biggest or fastest wide receiver, but he is one of those intangible “high impact” guys who is an instant game-changer. If Ward were unable to play, or if he was limited to just 75% or so of his usual healthy self, the Steelers offense could be in real trouble.
Here is a decent quality video of the hit Ryan Clark laid on Willis McGahee yesterday. Ryan Clark was shaken up on the play, while McGahee had to be carted off. McGahee was held in the hospital overnight for observation and had severe neck pain, but is expected to recover quickly and his football career will not be affected.
The Steelers topped the Ravens today, 23-14, in a hard-hitting game that decided the AFC champion. Troy Polamalu snagged an interception and ran it back for a touchdown with a few minutes left to seal the deal. Ravens running back Willis McGahee was injured by a devastation hit late in the game and had to be carted off the field. He was moving his limbs and talking several minutes later, but still had severe neck pain. This game was very much the brutal match-up that fans expected from the two teams who played very close games against each other in the regular season.
In case you’re sedated and having problems getting pumped up for this weekend’s AFC championship game against the Ravens, here’s a little Steelers highlight film to get you going:
