Troy Polamalu tore another ligament in his knee last week against the Bengals, and it looks like he’ll be out for another month. This is not a repeat post from September.
Here’s a video clip that will take you back to your childhood. It’s Tecmo Super Bowl on NES, but apparently somebody has hacked it with modern players and replayed some great moments in football history. Here, we’ve got Santonio Holmes using every inch of the end zone to reel in a Big Ben pass to win the (Tecmo) Super Bowl, reliving the live event from last February.

In what could be the biggest game in the AFC this season, the Steelers will host the Baltimore Ravens on December 27. The implications of this game could be huge, and you can be sure there are going to be some huge hits from both defenses. This will also be the last regular season game at Heinz Field, but I’m sure there will be another 2 playoff games there when we lock up home field advantage. Let’s get out there in force for this one and really make it a rough environment for the Ravens.

The Steelers will play a non conference home game against the Green Bay Packers on December 20th, their 2nd to last regular season home game of the season. The Packers might have received a lot of press the past 2 seasons because of the whole Brett Favre situation, but the fact is they were a sub-.500 team last season. Aaron Rodgers is a decent quarterback, but he’s not the future of the NFL. The Packers will take a pounding in this game, and the Steelers will likely clinch something, be it the division title or home field advantage or at least a wild card berth.
Despite being 1-1, the Steelers are still one of the most respected teams in football, as evident by ESPN.com’s #6 rank in their weekly Power Rankings. That’s quite a feat, considering there are currently 9 undefeated teams in the NFL. The Steelers don’t have a running game and struggled to score points against a Bears defense that was without its leader and will be without him for the rest of the season, but to be fair the Bears D looked great in week 1 without Urlacher. Maybe he was the problem all along, hahaha.
Buy tickets for the game against the Raiders
The Pittsburgh Steelers are the great AFC team of the modern times. The Oakland Raiders were once one of the great AFC teams, but that was decades ago. The Raiders did make the Super Bowl 7 or 8 years ago, but they imploded in that game and the franchise imploded soon after that. They are a team in disarray. They’ll visit the Steelers on December 6th, and I’m sure the Steelers will win this one by 30 points. Tickets for this game are selling on the secondary market for $70 or more.
Tickets still available on the secondary market
The Steelers will play a key divisional game against a crappy opponent when the Bengals come to Pittsburgh on November 15. Don’t expect too many surprises from the Bengals this season, even with OchoCinco wearing his lucky orange chin strap. For the record, he’s color blind and therefore can’t tell the difference between white and orange, so he shouldn’t have to pay the NFL’s $5000 fine because it’s discriminatory. Whatever, the Steelers are going to walk all over the Bengals in the game, and I plan on being there and being loud. I’ll try to keep sober for the sake of the children, but I’m going to enjoy taunting OchoStinko as much as humanly possible, and I’ve got seats that will get me close enough to do it. Tickets for this one are pretty cheap on the resale market, as low as $60 each.
Troy Polamalu sprained his MCL in last night’s overtime win over the Titans. The injury typically keeps players on the sideline for 3-6 weeks. While this injury is not as serious as an ACL tear, further tests could determine it’s far worse than a simple MCL sprain and could sideline him for a significant part of this season. That’s all just speculation at this point, and while Polamalu will be missed on our defense, we did hold the Titans to just 10 points last night while playing over half the game without him.
Here’s a quick recap on the Steelers 13-10 win over the Titans tonight:
- Troy Polamalu was injured in the first half. The leg injury looked bad on camera, as it appeared his leg bent backward. On the positive side, the bending seemed to be at the knee, which I suppose is better than a bone break. On the other hand, it could be an ACL or MCL, which would be disastrous.
- Before his injury, Polamalu had an amazing one-handed interception. He also had 3 penalty flags thrown against him, 2 of which were really stupid penalties that I wouldn’t expect from a veteran of his caliber. The other was a poor call on the refs part.
- Hines Ward had a great catch-and-run play with under 2 minutes left in the game, but he failed to protect the ball when he got down around the 5 yard line. He was hit and the ball popped out. If he had just gone down they could have run out the clock and kicked an easy game winning field goal. Instead, they had to do it in overtime.
- I think it’s fair to say this was a sloppy game, although it wasn’t poorly played. I guess it’s what can be expected from the first game of the season.
The woman who has accused Ben Roethlisberger of raping her in a Lake Tahoe hotel room last year now wants a list of all his sexual partners so she can find out whether any of them have similar complaints about the quarterback. Maybe she’s looking to start a class action lawsuit, which would be rather bizarre in a case like this. Also bizarre is the fact that she never pursued charges in a criminal court, instead going for the big bucks in civil court. Big Ben admitted having relations with this woman, and judging by the pictures of her he could do a lot better considering he’s a world champion quarterback. If that’s his standard for sleeping partners, this could be a very interesting list. I can only imagine it would include Terry Schaivo, Janet Reno, and Rene Russo.
