The prediction for the Eagles second pick in the first round of the draft is Knowshon Moreno, the Georgia running back. This is not someone to replace Brian Westbrook any time soon, but to take some work away from him. As impressive as Westbrook can be, he also gets overworked, and it often shows. The Eagles need a legitimate running back to take the ball every 3rd or 4th running play. Moreno is a solid running back who can find the gaps. As the following video clip shows, he can also jump pretty far:
Sports Illustrated has posted their early draft predictions, and they’ve got Jason Smith going to the Eagles with the 20th pick in the 1st round. I think it would be a great deal for the Eagles if Smith sticks around this long (I think he could easily go in the top 15), and if the opportunity strikes, the Eagles should grab him. Smith is a big offensive tackle out of Baylor. The Eagles already have some big guys on their offensive line, but it’s also a very old line and several of those guys are headed towards free agency. There’s no better time than the present to invest in the future by picking up some young blocking talent with fresh knees.
Eagles brass announced yesterday that both head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Donovan McNabb will be back with the team next season. Many radio sports host have suggested that the team cannot win a Super Bowl with that duo, although I don’t see any particular reason why not. McNabb had a roller coaster year, getting off to a great start and then slumping in the second half of the season so badly that at one point he was benched. That incident motivated him, and he played better down stretch because of it.
While the rest of the sports world is praising the Arizona Cardinals for overcoming a century of futility and finally making the Super Bowl on Sunday, I’m still a little hot about the final play for the Eagles offense in that NFC championship game. The Cardinals cornerback slipped and fell on the 4th down play, but managed to grab the leg of the wide receiver and prevent him from getting to Donovan McNabb’s quick pass. It was the clearest example of pass interference I’ve seen in an Eagles game this season, but the refs apparently didn’t want to call it — perhaps because they were afraid they would end up changing the outcome of the game.
These penalties are in the books for a reason, folks. If there’s pass interference on a play, it should be called no matter what the situation. You know what else could have changed the outcome of the game? If the receiver had been able to catch the ball without the defender on his legs.
The rumors are true, this blog was hijacked by terrorists. After a few security measures and a revamping of our entire back-end system, the Eagles blog is back. Despite some speculation, Cowboys fans were in no way involved with the hijacking. They’ve spent too much time crying over the past month to be able to fit in computer hacking. Anyway, here’s a highlight video of the Eagles from the past decade.
