Let’s Send JaMarcus Russell To The Pro Bowl

Raiders Add Pigeon To Special Teams Crew

The Raiders have signed a pigeon to their special teams crew. The pigeon lacks tackling ability but can be a distraction while blocking. Although he will not play with a number or even a jersey, he already wears silver and black.

Sunday’s Loss Makes Me Wonder How The Raiders Ever Won A Game

For about half a quarter on Sunday, the Raiders looked like they could play with the big boys. The game was scoreless with about 8:00 left in the first quarter. The cable went out in my house at about that time. It came back about 30 minutes later, and f*ck me silly, we’re down 28-0. The Giants toyed with the Raiders the rest of the game, playing a lot of backups on route to a rout of the Raiders.

I’m not sure if there are many teams in football that could play worse than the Raiders on Sunday. ESPN currently has the Raiders ranked #29 in their power rankings, and that’s pretty generous. We’re lucky there are 3 winless teams lower than us. The Titans, with a record of 0-5, are ranked #27 and I don’t think any Raiders have a place to complain about that. The Titans are bad, but they’re not Raiders bad. They’ll find their wins this season, but I think the Raiders were lucky to get there’s week 2 against the Chiefs. It’ll take some luck to get another.

Baltimore Ravens vs. Raiders – January 3 – Last Game of the Season

The final Raiders regular season game will be on January 3 against the Baltimore Ravens at the Coliseum. The Ravens will probably be one of the better teams in the AFC this season, which is just one more good team on the Raiders already brutal schedule. I wish the NFL could cut us (and Al Davis in particular) a break. Tickets for this game are reselling on the secondary market for cheap, often much less than face value. No matter what our record is by week 17, I’m sure the place is going to be loud as hell for this game.

A Look At McFadden’s Tricked Out Crown Vic

A lot of pro athletes have tricked out expensive cars, but none are like Darren McFadden’s Crown Victoria. He’s got a lifted suspension to accommodate the giant wheels (they must be at least 20 inches, and probably more like 24). The rest of the car seems fairly standard, which makes for an odd blend of the ordinary and the ostentatious.

The Washington Redskins and their revamped defense will visit the Raiders on December 13. This is the part of the Raiders home schedule where things get a little harder again. That NFC East is going to be one helluva division this season, and unfortunate the AFC West has to play them. It’s a lot harder to have a good enough record to contend for a wild card when you’ve got to play the best teams in the other conference. In addition to having an improved defense, I think Jason Campbell is finally starting to develop into the QB Skins fans had hoped he would.

How Long Must a Player Control The Ball For It To Be Ruled A Catch?

Like always, the Raiders were shafted by a terrible call last night. Those of you who watched the game know exactly which one I’m talking about. If a player catches a ball, goes down to the ground, rolls around a bit, celebrates the catch, carries the ball back to the locker room, changes into street clothes with the ball still in hand, drives with one hand on the wheel the entire way home while clutching the ball, goes into his bedroom and places the ball on the nightstand before crawling into bed to make sweet love to his wife, is it still a catch? Not if you’re an Oakland Raider, apparently. The officials seem to have interpreted the new-ish rule that a receiver must maintain control of the ball when going to the ground to mean that a player must remain attached to the ball forever. The Raiders scored a clear touchdown last night, but had it taken away because the refs determined that he didn’t “complete” the catch. It’s BS, and everyone watching knows it was BS.

Cincinnati Bengals at Raiders – November 22

The Bengals will make a trip to Oakland this season to play the Raiders on November 22. The Bengals have become one of those teams that has one good playoff year followed by about 4 terrible season followed by a playoff season… well, you get the picture. This is not going to be one of the seasons where they make the playoffs. Tickets for this game are selling in the $17 to $50 range, which is about as low as you’ll find for Raiders tickets all season.

Kansas City Chiefs vs. Raiders on November 15

The Raiders will face their arch-rivals at the Coliseum when the Chiefs come to town on November 15. The Chiefs take pride in the fact that Arrowhead Stadium is the loudest in football. I guess you’ve got to be proud of something when your players are all terrible. They signed Matt Cassel in the offseason, but don’t count on him playing in this game. I can’t see him staying uninjured into mid-November. With those pansies on the Chiefs line blocking for him, he’ll be lucky to escape week 1. Tickets for this game are reselling in the $25 to $60 range for the nosebleed seats.
