New Yankee Stadium Might Be Major Hitters’ Park

The first two exhibition games at the new Yankee Stadium have given me the indication that this is going to be a big hitter’s park. First of all, the stadium is not quite facing the same direction as the old stadium, so the wind enters the stadium differently. The stadium might look like a replica of the old park, but it’s also got some slightly different architectural features that might make the wind behave differently. From what I’m seeing, the wing swirls in the outfield, making it difficult to catch fly balls. It also pushes the ball out towards the bleachers, carrying balls over the fence. I think we’re going to see a ton of home runs this year. To make things worse for pitchers, the infield seems to be rock-hard. The grounds crew might have to deal with this later on to soften it up, but at the moment balls are really skipping through the infield.

If you’ve got a fantasy team, pick up some Yankee hitters and be wary of Yankees pitchers. This park is going to be an offensive powerhouse.
