New Orleans Saints vs. Dolphins – 10/25

Sunday 30 August 2009 @ 11:12 pm

See who’s got tickets for sale for this game

The Dolphins will reach the halfway point in their home schedule with a rare visit from the New Orleans Saints on October 25. Even though they hardly ever play each other I think the Saints can be considered a regional rival, along with other non-conference teams like the Buccaneers and the Falcons. At the very least they compete for the same general fan base. I don’t think much of this year’s Saints team, and I think even less of them playing in our stadium. Tickets for this game on the secondary market will be the cheapest you’ll find for any Dolphins home game this season.

Jets at Dolphins – October 12

The Dolphins will play their 2nd consecutive home game against an AFC East opponent on October 12 when the New York Jets come to town. This will also be the Dolphins 2nd Monday Night Football game played in Miami this season. All of their remaining home games after this will be played on Sundays. The Jets were a decent team last season, going 9-7 with Brett Favre taking snaps. Of course it was really their revamped line and running game that led them to those victories, but people can keep on believing in that Brett Favre magic if they want to. Just trust me on this: the Vikings will not improve on their 10-6 record from last year, and they’ll probably drop to 8-8 or worse now that they have Favre. But once against I’ve fallen off topic. The Dolphins will have their first hard test from within their division with this game, and they better be prepared for it. I expect the AFC East to be the toughest division in the NFL this season, so taking care of home games within the division is an absolute must.

Bills vs. Dolphins – October 4

Saturday 22 August 2009 @ 10:55 pm

Here are tickets for the Dolphins/Bills game

The Dolphins will play their first Sunday home game of the season on October 4th against the Buffalo Bills. This game will have a 4:05pm start time. The Bills are a perennial 7-9 team, but they probably think they’ve got something going now that they have a double deep threat with Terrell Owens and Lee Evans. Too bad their quarterback Trent Edwards probably can’t even reach them past 40 yards. The Bills also feature a new offense this year that will look similar to the K-Gun offense they used back in their early-90’s heyday. They beat up on the Dolphins back then, but we didn’t have a pass rush back then, and a good pass rush is the way to beat the K-Gun. The Bills pass protection has been terrible in recent years, so who knows if Trent Edwards will even be around to play in this game. My prediction: another Miami Dolphins blowout victory.

Colts at Dolphins – September 21

Tuesday 18 August 2009 @ 10:55 pm

Here’s where you can buy tickets for this game

The Dolphins open up their home schedule at the renamed Land Shark Stadium on September 21, a Monday Night Football game. By the way, has anyone actually tried Land Shark? I think it tastes terrible and I hope this naming deal isn’t renewed. Anyway, the Dolphins will once again be running the Wildcat offense on some of their plays, although it was not the huge factor in their offensive attack that every gives it credit for last season. In fact, they only ran it on about 12% of their plays. I think the Dolphins are an improved team over last year’s division winners, and they’ll have to be now that the Patriots appear to be back to full strength. Of course, I’ll believe the new Tom Brady is as good as the old Tom Brady when I see it. Nobody comes back from an ACL/MCL injury like that at 100%. But that’s all talk for another day, because our home opener will feature the Indianapolis Colts, who are once again expected to be contenders in the AFC. This should be a really good game to watch and will set the tone of the AFC battle early in the season. We should know by the end of this game whether what the Dolphins did last year can be duplicated.
