Sports Illustrated is predicting the Chiefs will take Georgia junior QB Matthew Stafford with the 3rd pick in the 2009 NFL draft. Stafford, who could potentially go at #1 to the Lions if they decide to continue on in the Matt Millen tradition, will likely follow two offensive linemen in the draft: Andre Smith from Alabama and Eugene Monroe from Virginia.
Drafting a QB in the first round of the draft is not something usually recommended by the experts, especially when the offensive line could use some work. I think there’s a very good chance the Chiefs pass on Stafford and go with someone like Michael Oher from Mississippi to pair with Branden Albert.
Chiefs head coach Herm Edwards was fired today, ESPN is reporting. He led the team to an amazing 2-14 record this season and has had a losing record with every NFL team he’s coached. Let’s hope he finds a new job with one of our rivals.
In a season that most Chiefs fans would like to forget, there was shining star that stood far above the rest. Tight end Tony Gonzalez was named to his fifth AP All Pro team yesterday. Despite the Chiefs 2 win season, Gonzalez still made it quite clear to sportswriters that he was the premier tight end in football.
