Sports Illustrated Prediction: Packers Take Johnson In First Round

Tuesday 27 January 2009 @ 7:03 pm

Sports Illustrated’s mock draft has the Packers taking Georgia Tech defensive end Michael Johnson with the 9th pick of the 1st round of this year’s NFL draft. Johnson has plenty of size at 6′7″ and 260 pounds to push through blockers and the height to knock down passes and be a general menace to opposing quarterbacks. Johnson could start as an end in the Packers 3-4 defense now headed by Dom Capers. Here’s a 10 minute long highlight reel to show what Johnson can do:

Packers Beat Giants To The Punch, Hire Dom Capers

Monday 19 January 2009 @ 6:51 pm

The Giants wavered at beating the salary offer the Packers made to Dom Capers for their defensive coordinator position, and Capers decided he didn’t want to wait any longer. He signed with the Packers today in a move that will no doubt leave many Giants fans frustrated. Capers worked as a secondary coach for the Patriots this season after serving as the defensive coordinator for the Dolphins in 2007. The Packers will get a discount on Capers salary for 2009 thanks to some payment issues with the Dolphins from 2 years ago, but they will pay over $2 million for his services in 2010.

Packers Have No AP All Pro Players

Saturday 10 January 2009 @ 10:49 pm

No Packers players were picked for the Associated Press All Pro first team for the 4th consecutive year. That should come as no surprise to Packers fans, who should all be aware of the teams lack of star talent (although there are definitely some “good” players on the team). Will the Packers ever again find a star player in their uniform?
