The Killer DVD Review

This review is for the Criterion Collection DVD version. For people new to DVDs, Criterion Collection is the gold standard of special editions. Right off the bat, just by see that Criterion Collection logo, you know this DVD is packed with extras galore. Now, let's get down to the movie. Directed by John Woo, The Killer is considered by many to be his masterpiece. This does not mean much to me, as I've never been very impressed by the work of John Woo. I've heard the stuff he did before coming to Hollywood was pretty good, but I've never seen any of it and I probably never will. His Americanized films have always seemed so low-brow, always trying to appeal to the dumbest and most easily-entertained in our society. His films are like Tarantino's, except lacking the brilliant plot. Of course, it's the plots that make Tarantino films so great, the blood and guts is just another means to an end.

Look at these incredible prices on The Killer DVDs. What's that? You're not an Ebay member! Perhaps it's time to crawl out of that cave and into the 21st century. Register as an Ebay member now. Of course it's free! It boggles my mind when I see people pay retail for items they can get on Ebay for 80% less.

This Criterion Collection version is very high-quality, in that it offers loads of extras and a very nice technical transfer. The story is standard (and over-used) hitman fare, but it did inspire Tarantino to make similar-looking films, albeit much better.
