Akira DVD Review

First off, I am not a big fan of anime. I will attempt to write this review of this Akira Special Edition DVD from a technical standpoint, without penalizing the film too much. Apparently this is the film that brought anime to mainstream American culture, although I'm still not certain that anime could be considered mainstream. The only store that sells lots of anime stuff in my town (that I know of) is run out of some guy's apartment. I've been in there once, and it was a frightening experience. Imagine a dozen high schoolers, sitting around playing RPG's on several TV's and making fake weapons out of styrofoam and duct tape (for LARP battles). Anyway, Akira is an... interesting story, and with this special edition it is available for the first time with decent English subtitles and even an English dub if you prefer to watch it that way. The video is a new transfer, making it the best-looking Akira you've ever seen.

Akira
Look at these incredible prices on Akira DVDs. What's that? You're not an Ebay member! Perhaps it's time to crawl out of that cave and into the 21st century. Register as an Ebay member now. Of course it's free! It boggles my mind when I see people pay retail for items they can get on Ebay for 80% less.

This DVD is packed with extras I'm sure any fan of Akira will drool over. I'm still not sure what fans will do with 4,500 still images from production, but I'm sure they'll do something. There are many other extras, including interviews and documentaries. If I were a fan I'd probably watch this every day, most likely on a TV set in some guy's apartment/store.
