Dazed and Confused Goofs

  • In the scene where the freshmen girls are being hazed in the parking lot, there is a red Pontiac Trans Am visible in the background. The rims on that car are from a 1982 Camaro or Trans Am (they were used on both). Dazed and Confused was set in 1976.
  • When Mitch is purchasing beer there is a coke logo on a soda dispenser in the store that was not introduced until 1985.
  • Reflections of equipment can be seen in multiple scenes. Look at the reflection on the door of Pickford's car when the guys pull up to the convenience store to buy beer. When Mike and Tony are discussing Tony's Abraham Lincoln dream at the beginning of the movie a boom mike can be seen in the reflection on the classroom window.
  • In the scenes between the end of the baseball game and the party at the moontower there is a lack of continuity in the lighting. It goes from pitch black to twilight and back again several times.
  • When driving out to the party at the moontower Wooderson and Benny are taunting each other from their cars (Wooderson in his Chevelle and Benny in his C10 truck). Their movement of their mouths does not match up with the words (especially Wooderson's).
  • During a few scenes in the movie characters are seen drinking beers out of cans that had flip-tab openers. Beer cans in Texas had pull-ring tabs until the mid-80's. This is especially visible when the guys are shotgunning beers at the party.
  • When Pink and Slater are at Pickford's house "doing business" you can see a pair of large gaming dice at the base of the table disappear and then reappear again.
  • When the guys are in Pickford's car throwing trash cans at mailboxes Pink is supposed to throw the second trash can. In the shot where they show the arm reaching out to grab the trash can it is clear that it's Dawson's arm. Dawson is wearing a green shirt with the sleeve rolled up. Pink is wearing a long sleeve blue shirt.
  • In the scene where Pentico show's up outside the classroom waving the keys to his brother's car he is wearing a Kiss "Rock and Roll Over" t-shirt. That album was released in November 1976. Dazed and Confused is set in May 1976.
  • The chest protector with shoulder protectors on each side that Tommy wears (as catcher) in the baseball game was not available until at least the mid-80's. I am not entirely sure that it is even a catchers chest protector. I suspect that it is a chest protector made for umpires. Either way, it was not available in 1976.
  • The dumpster that is visible when Hirschfelder gets his licks from O'Bannion and Benny is a Waste Management dumpster. Waste Management did not exist until the late 80's.
  • When the guys are throwing the trash cans at mailboxes a wire attached to the car is visible. The car is on a trailer, and if you look closely the tires aren't moving.
  • Benny's 1972 Chevy C10 truck has an aftermarket steering wheel that wasn't available until the 80's.
  • I haven't seen this one, but I think it's pretty interesting. In the version that has run on the USA Network, when the seniors and Wooderson are on the football field they replace some dialog that has talk of drugs in it. The replaced dialog includes "Magic Johnson on one, Russia on two." Magic Johnson was not drafted until 1979, and chances are the characters would not have heard of him yet. This is obviously not the fault of the people that made Dazed and Confused.
  • When the freshmen girl is proposing to Dawson, she goes from on her knees in one shot, then sitting in the next, and then on her knees again.
  • When Mitch arrives home at the end it appears to still be fairly dark out. A few scenes before he was shown making out with Julie, and it appeared that the sun had already come up and it was light out.
  • The old man at the football game grabs Pink's left arm and asks if this arm is ready to throw 2000 yards this season. It is clear that Pink throws with his right arm, because that's the arm he throws the pledge sheet with at the beginning of the movie and his car keys at the end of the movie. The old man should have known Pink throws with his right arm, because he was obviously a huge fan of the football team, citing several stats that Pink probably wasn't even aware of or didn't care about.
  • When O'Bannion is caught by Carl's mom his paddle is seen with the FAH-Q side visible. A shot later the O.B. / Badass side is visible. A shot later the FAH-Q side is back. I should not that O'Bannion might be twirling it in his hand, but he was never seen on camera doing that.
  • The version of the Kiss song "Rock and Roll All Nite" is the 1988 remix version. I'm not sure that this should really be considered a goof, because nothing says that they have to use music available in May 1976, but since all the other music was available at that time it doesn't really fit. It would have definately been a goof if the music was coming from someone's car radio, but it wasn't.
  • After O'Bannion gets paint dumped on him he gets in his car and drives off in a fit of rage. His tires squeel, but he is driving on grass, so the squeeling sound effect wasn't realistic.
  • Slater and the other guy in the back seat of Pickford's car switch places. This happens around the same time when Dawson criticizes Slater over the whole "check you later" thing.
  • At the end of the movie Wooderson passes an Oldsmobile Delta 88 from the 1980's. This goof has been reported on several websites, but I don't see it. In all the versions I've seen there are no other cars on the road as Wooderson and the crew drive off at the end of the movie. Can someone please describe exactly when this goof occurs.
