See what seats are available for the Lions/Rams game
The Lions open November with a home game against the St. Louis Rams. This game will kickoff at the early Sunday time of 12:00 (that’s 1:00 EST). In fact, every Lions home game except for the Thanksgiving game kicks off at noon. I’ve been looking at tickets for this Lions/Rams game on the resale market, and I’ll predict that this will be the cheapest Lions home game you can experience all season. The low end tickets are going for about $40 a pop, while the lower sideline seats near the 50 yard line are going for about $1,000, as usual. Fans in those sections are too snobby for my taste anyway. I’d rather drink some brews with my bros in the cheap seats any day.

The Lions, the worst team in the NFL last season, will face their toughest challenge of the 2009 season when they square off against the defending Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers on October 11. There seems to be a lot of fan interest in this game, with even the low end tickets selling for about $100, which is double what they normally go for on the secondary market. I consider that a good sign that Lions fans are confident their team will surprise the rest of the NFL and have a successful season in 2009 despite what happened in 2008.

The Redskins will waltz into Ford Field for a game against the Lions on September 27. I can foresee them leaving the stadium with frowns on their faces after getting whooped around by a team they thought they could crush. The new-look Lions are going to surprise a lot of teams during the beginning of this season as they start fighting for wins and stop giving games away. That’s right, no more QB’s running several yards out of the end zone before finally realizing the official has ruled a safety. Tickets for the Skins-Lions game are selling in the $50 range for the cheap seats and over $1,000 for the seats that will probably put you next to Ford executives (shouldn’t they be begging for tax money, not watching football?). There are plenty of good seats in the price ranges in between.

I know some of you like to follow your favorite players on Twitter or their own personal blogs, so I thought I’d give everyone a heads up that running back Kevin Smith is now blogging. I’ve also been following his Tweets, and he’s predicting the Lions make the playoffs this season and saying that Matthew Stafford is already really good (as if we didn’t know that).

The Minnesota Vikings will renew their rivalry with the Detroit Lions as the two meet for the first Lions home game of the 2009 season on September 20. The Lions are going to be as hungry as ever as they attempt to avenge their zero-win 2008 campaign. The Vikings could be in trouble here, as they clearly haven’t prepared their team well this offseason. Any team that courts a well-beyond-his-years quarterback just because he once played for a rival team doesn’t have their offense in order. Look for the Lions to upset here as they prove a bottom-up approach to rebuilding works better than their old top-down approach (ignoring the fact that they drafted a QB with the #1 overall pick). Low-end tickets to this game are selling in the $60 range, with the really good seats going for $1,000 or more.
