Someone with way too much time on their hands has recreated Brandon Stokely’s Immaculate Deflection play that gave the Broncos a win over the Bengals in week 1… in Tecmo Super Bowl on the NES. I’d advise against trying to do this at home.

The Broncos Are For Real

The Broncos are now 5-0 after a surprising defeat of the New England Patriots on Sunday. Considering all the turmoil in the offseason, I think the Broncos start has come as a shock to almost everybody. The last time the Broncos started a season 5-0, they went on to win the Super Bowl in 1998. I’ve got a weird (but good) feeling about this season. Right from the start it seemed like Denver was favored by the Gods of the gridiron, and they haven’t looked back.

Broncos Undefeated, Still No Love From The Experts

The Denver Broncos might be one of just 4 undefeated teams in the NFL after week 4, but they’re still not getting any credit from the experts. ESPN’s weekly power rankings have the Broncos at #8, behind teams like the Jets, Patriots, and Ravens, all of whom have a loss on their record. At some point people are going to recognize the Broncos are a good team. Our defense is solid, and the offense isn’t the mess people thought it would be without Jay Cutler. In fact, the offense is only getting better.

I’d prefer the Broncos stay under the radar. Our opponents can keep on underestimating us while we take this show right to the Super Bowl.

The Broncos rivals, the Kansas City Chiefs, will come to Denver on the final Sunday of the regular season. By this point in the year, the Chiefs will probably be hoping for their 2nd or 3rd win, but in the backs of their minds they’ll be thinking about what draft picks they’ll be able to take if they lose this game. That’s pretty much been the Chiefs mentality for the past decade as they put one miserable football team out on the field year after year. The Broncos will stuff this one down the Chiefs throats and make them wish they had chosen another profession. If that sounds entertaining to you, seats for this game are selling for under $50 on the secondary market, with better seats selling for up to $1,000. That may seem like a lot, but from up close you can actually see the Chiefs players crying.

Raiders @ Broncos Tickets – December 20

The Raiders make their visit this season to Invesco Field on December 20. Tickets for this game are selling at lower than normal prices, which I think might be an indication that the Broncos faithful actually have little faith in their team to be in contention on December 20. Shame on them, and if you’re in that group consider this message me calling you out. We all know the Raiders will be about 4 games back by this point and looking for their 3rd or 4th win of the season, but the Broncos should be the surprise team of the NFL with 8 or 9 wins by then and looking to lock in a playoff spot. If you don’t believe that, you can get out of town right now.

Denver Broncos Throwback Uniforms Are Hideous

Has anyone seen the new/old Denver Broncos throwback uniforms? They are about the ugliest thing I’ve ever seen on an NFL player, other than those sweatpants with the loose waistband Plaxico Burress wore out to the club last year. Yellow jersey, brown pants, brown and yellow vertical stripe socks. Ugly. The Broncos will be wearing these for games when they play other original AFC teams.

These uniforms better be ugly enough to distract opponents and win us a couple extra games this season.

Broncos Offer Marshall A New Contract

What do you do when your star wide receiver refuses to play under his current contract and becomes such a problem you have to suspend him? If you’re the Denver Broncos, you offer him a new contract. News came yesterday that the Broncos have offered Marshall a contract that will put his pay more in line with other top receivers in the league, although those contract talks are now on hold. The Jets have shown a clear interest in Marshall, but the Broncos seem to be waiting until the last minute in an attempt to get top dollar in return. I’m not sure if that strategy will pay off, as a receiver becomes less valuable when he starts with a new team during the season and has to learn a whole new playbook.

Giants vs. Broncos Tickets @ Invesco Field November 26

The Broncos and Giants will play on just 4 days rest on November 26 as they take the NFL Network late game on Thanksgiving Day. This game will be nationally televised for those of you who get the NFL Network and aren’t stuck with Time Warner Cable, which has trademarked the slogan “2nd Worst Cable Company in America”. For those of you who are stuck without NFL Network and instead have to endure 47 different varieties of the Home Shopping Network (now in HD! So you can see the detail on that fake diamond ring you’re buying for your 7th wife), there are plenty of tickets available for this game on the secondary “resale” market, and the prices are surprisingly reasonable for a Thanksgiving Day game against a popular opponent like the Giants. I’m seeing some tickets under $70.

Chargers @ Broncos – November 22 – Tickets Available

The Chargers make their only visit of the season to Invesco Field @ Mile High to play the Broncos on November 22. This will be the Broncos first home game since their Monday Night Football game against the Steelers on Nov. 9th. Tickets for that game were selling at outrageous prices, but sales are light on the secondary market for this one against the Chargers. I’ve seen some individual tix selling for less than $50 a pop, which is about half the price of the MNF game, and in my experience about half the hassle as well (if the Broncos lose, that’s not a fun trip home in the dark on a school night). Day games are just so much easier, and who cares if it’s nationally televised or not if you’re already at the game.
