Sports Illustrated (very) early mock draft has the Ravens selecting Utah cornerback Sean Smith with the 26th pick in the 1st round. At 6′3″ and 214 pounds, Smith is large for a cornerback, but he prefers to play a bump and run style that should work well in the NFL. The Ravens need to get younger at this position, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they take another cornerback later in the draft. Smith was projected to be a 2nd round pick prior to his domination of Alabama in the Sugar Bowl.
The health status of Ravens running back Willis McGahee is still unknown after he was carted off the field towards the end of the Ravens loss to the Steelers in the AFC championship game. McGahee’s injury was the result of a brutal hit by Steelers safety Ryan Clark. It was a helmet-to-helmet hit, but it was clean because McGahee was carrying the ball. McGahee fumbled the ball on the play and laid motionless on the ground for several minutes afterward. After he was put on the stretcher, he could be seen moving his arms and legs, but reportedly suffered from severe neck pain.
This is not the first time McGahee has suffered a serious injury during a big game. In his final season of college football, millions of fans watching on national TV could see McGahee’s knee bend sideways during the national championship game. That injury lowered his draft status, though the Bills would eventually pick him in the first round with the hopes that he could become a star running back after rehab.
Well, my blog got hijacked and I lost all previous posts. I guess it’s my fault for being lax on security and not backing up regularly. I won’t make that mistake again. Moving on, it’s time once again to send in your predictions for this week’s Ravens game against the Titans. Will the Ravens upset the last team to lose their first game this season? Will Joe Flacco show off his arm and throw for 300 yards? What are your predictions?
