Men's Lifestyle & Hobbies @ Damox

"Every man's life ends the same way. It is only the details of how he lived and how he died that distinguish one man from another."  - Hemingway

Dodge ChallengerThe automotive spirit runs through the veins of nearly every American man. We've developed a massive database of cars -- both domestic and foreign, with all the important facts about each model. Also see our collection of car pictures and supercar wallpapers.

If you're looking to buy a car, our Exotic and Rare Car Auction site takes a look at some very interesting models that are for sale right now.

Vintage guitarClassic rock and folk music was the soundtrack to the rebellion against the establishment in the 1960's, and we still find ourselves drawn to those tunes and the music it inspired. We still collect the instruments made to make that music, and we chronicle them in Vintage Guitars. You'll also find plenty of information about select guitars and other subjects from our guitar and car guru friend at Squidoo.

NFLLet's face it, when we aren't in the garage monkeying around with our cars or practicing classic rock tunes with our band, or in the basement with our collections of various Americana, we're glued to the TV set, watching sports. On our sports blog we track the ins and outs of the American sports scene.

Men's Lifestyle

Steve McQueenWe grew up watching men like Paul Newman and Steve McQueen rebeling against authority, driving recklessly, getting the girl -- and doing it all in style. That spirit is captured in The American Cool, a blog about everything from vintage cars to modern and classic men's style, with a little Mad Men and James Dean sprinkled in between.

For those of you who really want to mimic the lifestyle of the rich and famous, we've also got The Watch Guru reviewing the one piece of jewelry (other than a wedding ring) that it's acceptable for gentlemen to wear.

Books & Entertainment

Hunter S. ThompsonWe bow to the patron saint of Damox, Dr. Hunter S. Thompson, and also honor other greats like Ernest Hemingway, Thomas Pynchon, and the late great David Foster Wallace. Plenty of related information about these writers and adventurers have been written by our mysterious friend who goes by the name D.B. Cooper.

Hank Aaron RCWe are collectors of things. Nobody is quite sure why, but no matter whether it was evolution or divine creation, we like to form collections, and then we like to buy, sell, and trade our collections with others.

Much work has been put into the database of coins and baseball card checklist sites, and both serve real-time sales results to give you a good price guide for whatever rare coin or card you're looking to buy or sell.

The Evolution of Damox:

Like most internet savvy young men, my first net experience involved searching for pictures of sports cars, among other things. I would eventually compile these car pictures into a small site. Nobody saw it, but that wasn't really the point. I just wanted a place where I could share some wallpapers with friends, and back then we didn't have Gmail or Dropfile or anything like that.

My next big project was a tribute to my favorite movie. I made what I believed was the greatest Dazed and Confused fansite in the world. I have no idea if it was or not, but I worked real hard on it while watching the movie over and over and over again. Eventually the 1970's died for me (probably sometime around 2003) and I started expanding my cinematic tastes. I wrote a bunch of movie reviews, mostly for movies that were released decades before. What can I say, when it comes to cars and movies I've always preferred the classics.

As everything started to merge into this site you see before you today, I expanded its scope into strange new fields like stocks and bonds and how to find the right lawyer for a particular case. You can imagine the turmoil my real life was going through at this time for me to choose those particular topics. Let's just say those were the post-Enron but pre-Madoff days, and the Bush administration was promising to either rob everyone blind or send them to prison for trying to stop them. As Zevon used to say, "lawyers, guns, and money -- they'd get me out of this. HA!".
